TITLE 1:
High Energy Particle Accelerators, Past, Present and Future
ABSTRACT:
High-energy particle accelerators are the most important research tools for the fundamental and applied research in physical science. The findings based on high-energy particle accelerators have changed our perception of the Universe dramatically. The recent restarting LHC will explore the properties of the Higgs particle (“God particle”) in much deeper level and may unravel many more unknowns of the Universe, e.g. dark matter.
In this talk, I will review the development of particle accelerator science and technology in its past and introduce the state-of-the art accelerator technology nowadays. In addition, the future of this field will also be discussed.
TITLE 2:
Physics and Astronomy in the University of Manchester
ABSTRACT:
In this talk, I will give an introduction about the physics and astronomy of the University of Manchester. Its research tradition in the past and its current status will be highlighted.
